Welcome To Bastrop
Established in 1832 as part of Stephen F. Austin's Little Colony, Bastrop is the second oldest city in Texas. You can see over one hundred homes listed on the National Register of Historic Places and visit the Bastrop County Historical Society Museum by taking Loop 150 into Old Town Bastrop, the Heart of the Colorado River, where the present meets the past.
Summer is a very special time in Bastrop. A variety of wildflowers provide a breath-taking display of nature's beauty. Bastrop offers many outdoors-recreational activities. Why not go for a lovely drive or hike through the famous Lost Pines at Bastrop State Park? Then, if you're in the mood to spend more time outdoors, you'll love Lake Bastrop, the Colorado River and our three challenging golf courses.
You'll notice several large retailers and restaurants conveniently located along Highway 71. Take loop 150 to Historic Downtown Bastrop where you'll find a unique variety of shops and cafes. On Main Street, you'll discover an enchanting selection of gift shops, antiques, specialty stores, and restaurants. Several shops and restaurants are open late on Friday evenings for your shopping and dining pleasure.
As the sun sets, we hope you'll be ready to enjoy the nightlife of Bastrop where you can listen to local entertainers and dance to great music. Or enjoy a performance at the Old Bastrop Opera House, which sponsors a variety of musical, comedy and dramatic productions throughout the year. After the excitement of the day’s adventures, you might be ready to retire for the evening in one of our comfortable motels or in a charming bed and breakfast inn.
Bastrop also has many festivals and events each season. Summer events include the June Teenth Celebration on June 19, the Annual Patriotic Festival featuring barbeque dinner, live symphony and fireworks in the park on July 5 and the 51st Annual Homecoming Arts & Crafts Show, Parade and Rodeo July 30 through August 2.
